Rosen College Advisor Receives Promotion, Trio of Professional Awards

vanessa-cogswell-ucf-rosen-collegeVanessa Cogswell, a former academic advisor at Rosen College who was recently promoted to assistant director of student services and oversees the successful Peer Outreach Mentoring Program, has already received several awards this year in recognition of her professional accomplishments.

Cogswell was the recipient of the 2016 UCF Excellence in Professional Academic Advising Award, which recognizes the outstanding efforts that UCF’s professional advisors play in retaining students, providing accurate and timely information to students, creating a caring and supportive environment, and helping students realize their potential. A selection committee appointed by the associate vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Services consisting of previous award winners and a cross-section of students, faculty and staff selects one individual from those nominated to receive the honor.

She also received two awards from the Florida Academic Advising Association (FLACADA): The 2016 FLACADA Exemplary Practice Award, which recognizes and honors outstanding programs and professionals in academic advising throughout the State of Florida, and the 2016 FLACADA Excellence in Advising Award, given to an individual who has demonstrated qualities associated with the outstanding advisement of students.

In addition, Cogswell facilitated a presentation titled, “Guide to Building and Sustaining an Effective Peer Mentoring Program – Reaching a 95% Success Rate is Achievable” at the FLACADA Drive-In Conference in May in Jacksonville, FL.  She was selected from thousands of proposals to facilitate the same presentation at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) 2016 Annual Conference in Atlanta this October.
