A Legacy of Excellence: The History of Rosen College

The Rosen College of Hospitality Management at UCF has a rich history rooted in excellence and innovation. It was established in 1983 as a department within UCF’s College of Business Administration, with Dr. Abraham Pizam as its founding leader. In 2000, the program gained autonomy and was renamed the Rosen School of Hospitality Management following a transformative $18.2 million donation from hotelier Harris Rosen. Just two years later, in 2002, ground was broken for a new hospitality-focused campus on Universal Boulevard. On January 5, 2004, the state-of-the-art Rosen College campus officially opened—a $28.1 million project that became the largest and most advanced facility ever built for hospitality education in the country. That same year, on May 13, 2004, the institution was elevated to college status and officially renamed the Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

Since then, Rosen College has continued to grow in impact, enrollment, and recognition. From launching new academic programs like Restaurant Management in 2002, Event Management in 2006, and the standalone Ph.D. in Hospitality Management in 2012, to housing over 3,000 students and partnering with global leaders like Walt Disney World and Marriott, the college has remained at the forefront of hospitality education. In 2024, Rosen College celebrates the 20th anniversary of its Universal Boulevard campus and over 40 years of preparing students to lead in the global hospitality and tourism industry. With world-class faculty, global partnerships, and a commitment to innovation, Rosen College continues to shape the future of one of the world’s most dynamic industries.
