Biography

Stephen “Steve” Pratt is Full Professor and Department Chair of Tourism, Events and Attractions at Rosen College of Hospitality Management, a position he took up in August 2022. Steve holds a Bachelor’s degree and Master degrees in Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia, and a Ph.D. from the University of Nottingham, UK. Prior to joining Rosen College, Steve served as Deputy Head of School of Business and Management at the University of the South Pacific, based in Suva, Fiji. From 2018 to 2022, he was also Head of Discipline of Tourism & Hospitality Management. That was his second stint at The University of the South Pacific, having served as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer at that institution from 2009 to 2012. In between, Steve was employed at the School of Hotel & Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

His research interests include sustainable tourism development, tourism in small island states and film tourism. Steve is co-creator of the popular YouTube channel, The Travel Professors.

Prior to undertaking his PhD, Steve was a marketing research consultant, having worked in Sydney, Australia and Hawaii, USA on both the client and supplier-side.

Steve serves on numerous editorial boards for journals, and is involved in several association bodies, such as the International Association for Tourism Economics – elected Council Member since 2015, a Board Director of the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE) (2020-2022) and Country Representation for the Republic of Fiji of the APacCHRIE (Asia Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education Board) (2018-2022). He is also an External Reviewer for The Quality Assurance Agency (2021-).

Dr Pratt has extensive teaching experience at the tertiary level in both undergraduate and postgraduate (Masters, MBA and PhD) courses in the area of tourism, sustainability and research methods.
