Rosen Knight Highlight: William Zambelli—Lighting Up Hospitality with Passion and Purpose
ORLANDO, Fla. – To know William Zambelli is to know a smile that lights up a room and an unmistakable laugh that draws people together. His warmth and energy are contagious, making him a beloved figure within the Rosen College community. As a current graduate student, Zambelli is pursuing an M.S. in hospitality and tourism management, along with certificates in event management and leadership and strategy. Originally from Macomb, Michigan, just outside Detroit, he relocated to Florida five years ago and has since embarked on an exciting journey through the world of hospitality and event management.
Zambelli’s journey at Rosen College didn’t begin with his master’s degree. He first earned his undergraduate degrees here as a double major in hospitality management and restaurant and food service management, a choice driven by the college’s stellar reputation. “I knew from the start that Rosen was where I wanted to continue my education,” Zambelli says. “It was the best decision I’ve made, and it’s shaped me into who I am today.” His deep connection to the college, along with his growing passion for educational leadership, led him to return for his graduate studies with the goal of becoming a professor. “Discovering that I could teach about the very industry I love sealed the deal for me,” he says.
Zambelli’s educational journey began at Valencia College, where he completed his general education courses before transferring to Rosen College. “Rosen had and still has the reputation for being the absolute best program,” he says. “It is not only one of the best decisions that I’ve ever made, but it’s a decision that has shaped me into who I am today.” His time as an undergraduate was filled with growth, learning and personal discovery, though not without its challenges.
Like many students, Zambelli faced difficult moments. “My first semester at Rosen was tough. I failed my first class ever, and my mental health was at an all-time low,” he says. Taking time off during the summer allowed him to reflect and return with a renewed sense of purpose. “When I came back, I got involved in as many activities as I could. I found my balance through leadership roles and campus involvement,” he says. Zambelli credits organizations like the Rosen College Leadership Council (where he served as vice president) and the Peer Outreach Mentoring Program for helping him regain his confidence and find his footing again.
One of Zambelli’s proudest accomplishments during his undergraduate years was his extensive involvement in student organizations. He served in numerous leadership roles, including Vice President of Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, Festival Director of Rosen Life, and Secretary of the Casino Resort Club. He was also Vice President of Programs for Knights Special Events Society and a dedicated member of ETA Sigma Delta International Hospitality Honor Society. Zambelli’s commitment to mentorship was recognized when he was named Mentor of the Year for the 2023-24 Peer Outreach Mentoring Program. Zambelli remains active in the Rosen College community as a graduate student, continuing to serve as a Dean’s Student Ambassador and as a member of Knights of the RELM. “It’s such a special feeling to find your place and your people, and I can say that I’ve found both here at Rosen College,” Zambelli says.
Now, as a graduate assistant in the events and catering department, Zambelli is able to combine his passion for event management with his love for hospitality. “In my role, I get to work with internal and external clients, managing everything from large-scale events to small, intimate gatherings,” he says. His job involves coordinating with chefs, managing logistics and overseeing interns, all while ensuring smooth operations for each event. “I’ve learned so much in this role, and I’m incredibly grateful for the support and guidance I’ve received along the way.”
For those considering a graduate program at Rosen College, Zambelli has straightforward advice: “Do it.” He adds, “The application process is simple, and the professors are experts in their field. Every second of time and effort is worth it.” Zambelli is particularly grateful for the attentiveness of the Rosen College graduate program staff and how they pay attention to each student’s needs, making the experience as fulfilling as possible.
As for his future? Zambelli hopes to continue working in the hospitality and events industry while nurturing his passion for education. His ultimate goal is to become a professor, sharing his love for hospitality with future generations of students. “I want to continue growing, building connections and gaining experience until I’m ready to inspire others who share my love for this industry,” he says. We can’t wait to see where William’s journey leads next as he continues to shine in the world of hospitality and education.
