Ms. Lori V. Safford, MA
Biography
Lori Safford has been a valued member of the University of Central Florida (UCF) community for over 30 years, beginning her career in the Registrar’s Office and steadily progressing through various roles. Currently, she serves as the Director of Academic Success Coaching on behalf of the Rosen College of Hospitality Management, where she oversees academic advising and student support services. Additionally, she is an Adjunct Instructor within the Hospitality Services Department at UCF Rosen College, teaching courses that focus on hospitality communications and business communication techniques.
In her capacity as Director, Ms. Safford is responsible for a wide range of services including program and curriculum support, the academic coaching initiative, student engagement and leadership support. She guides a team of advising and student support professionals and has been instrumental in increasing student retention and graduation rates within the Rosen College. Her work ensures that students are provided with the guidance and resources necessary to achieve their academic and career goals.
Ms. Safford’s role as an educator extends beyond the classroom; she actively develops innovative teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes. Her curriculum development for hospitality communication courses incorporates field experiences and group work, and she is known for hosting entrepreneurial Shark Tank-style activities supported by industry professionals. Her teaching has consistently earned high praise, with student feedback rating her effectiveness rating at 97%.
Her dedication to the UCF community is evident in her extensive committee work and leadership positions. She has served on several key university boards, including Student Success Leadership Councils, and the Dean’s Executive Committee. Ms. Safford is also credited for establishing UCF’s first chapter of the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) and continues to serve as an advisor to the organization. In addition to her administrative and teaching roles, Lori Safford is an advocate for student success, and she serves as a mentor and role model for students navigating their academic and professional journeys. Her influence extends into the broader community, where she is involved in social justice efforts through Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, the I Will Legacy Group and other community organizations.
Ms. Safford’s educational background includes an Associate of Science degree in Legal Studies and an Associate of Arts degree in General Studies from Valencia Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice, and a Master of Arts in Issues of Social Concern from the University of Central Florida. She is also a Certified Online Instructor and a graduate of UCF’s President’s Leadership Enhancement Program. She continues to pursue professional development and plans to complete a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in the near future.
Throughout her career, Lori Safford has been recognized for her leadership, dedication to service, and commitment to excellence. She is 2022 recipient of the Outstanding Administrator of the Year award. Her forward-thinking approach and passion for student success make her a driving force within the university.
