The College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) at the University of Central Florida is one of the largest Colleges in the institution with more than 11,000 students. CECS has six departments, Civil Environmental and Construction Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Management Systems, Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. One of the youngest universities in Florida, the University of Central Florida was established in 1963 as Florida Technological University (FTU). In October of 1968, the doors opened for the first classes. The original enrollment class consisted of 1,948 students.
